Dry cupping is a therapy that uses cups to create suction which lifts the soft tissues.

Dry cupping – how does it work? Initially, the cup’s vacuum application draws blood into the soft tissues. This causes the soft tissue to become saturated with fresh blood. This saturation often leaves a circular mark that looks like those love bites we all since as teenagers!

However, this usually goes away over time, between 1-14 days and to a lesser extent with subsequent treatments. Neovascularization (the formation of new blood vessels) occurs in response to blood being drawn into tissues. This results in increased nutrient and oxygen levels in the area.

The stretch created in the soft tissues and fascia creates a relaxing effect within the muscle, improving range of motion and performance.

What are the benefits?

Dry cupping can help to:

  • reduce muscle aches
  • Increase range of movement
  • reduce back pain
  • reduce fascial tension
  • reduce stress and anxiety

Gliding cupping is suitable for all ages.

Gliding cupping is performed by applying oil over the skin and moving the cups over the treated area by using weak suction. This type of cupping can be used for all ages as it uses a weaker suction to allow the cups to glide over the body.
